90210 Zips Back for Summer

Editorial Review

TEN is set to pad out its non-rating season with the return of 90210, re-runs of Rush, House and Law & Order, plus The Bold & The Beautiful moves to primetime.

Editorial Review

90210 finally returns to screens next week, in readiness for a place in TEN's summer schedule. It's back from 7:30pm Monday night on TEN, after being dropped by the network after just a few episodes. But if you think summer is going to ease up on erratic network scheduling, think again.

A week later it moves to a new, permanent home of 7:30pm Sundays. Ironically, that's where the old Beverly Hills 90210 used to sit. TEN should be hoping it lasts even half as long as that. At least it's a better time than Nine is giving Gossip Girl: 10:30pm Wednesdays - far too late for its young audience, summer or no summer.

In other programming news, TEN has decided to move The Bold & The Beautiful into a primetime slot, giving it the 6pm slot from Monday, 1 December. Replacing it at 4:30pm, where it has been winning for an eternity, is Judge Judy, who in turn is replaced by Everybody Loves Raymond. Confusing? It doesn't end there.

Will and Grace, brought in to try and revive TEN's ailing 7pm slot, is to be dumped for Friends - the show it replaced.

TEN is also bringing us Army Wives. Starring Kim Delaney, this US drama is based on a book about the women who become friends on an army post, while their husbands are busy serving the nation. There's even one "army husband" whose wife is in the armed forces.

Also for summer are the eighth cycle of America's Next Top Model, The Ex-List, more Don't Forget the Lyrics, How to Look Good Naked and NZ's Orange Roughies. There are repeats of other TEN faves including Rush (a good idea, to re-build the local audience), Rules of Engagement, House, Law and Order (all three franchises) and NCIS.

New Aussie soap Out of the Blue, commissioned by the BBC to replace Neighbours, will continue four nights a week in its late-night slot.

While we await the return of ratings in early February, it's gonna be a long, hot, re-run summer.

Non-ratings season officially starts Sunday, 30 November.

Charlie: David, please learn the difference between irony and coincidence. (20 November 2008)

Chelle: Why not bring back 90210 (version 1) as well and while your at it melrose place in time to recapture the audience for the new series they're making of that? Seriously TEN think ahead for once!oh and where are the Simpsons?? I thought they were a TEN staple ratings or no ratings! (19 November 2008)
