Ginseng Restaurant

Editorial Review

Owner/chef Rockie Cheung serves up his own distinctive style of traditional Chinese, adding a subtle, contemporary touch to each dish. Try duck san choy bao or the duck pancake.

Editorial Review

The recently refurbished Ginseng Restaurant has always been a favourite with Manuka diners looking for fantastic Chinese cuisine in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. But dining at Ginseng is hardly skimping: it has been the winner of the Restaurant and Catering Associations Best Chinese Restaurant in ACT/NSW Division annually since 2004, and grabbed the top spot in Australia in 2007.

The narrow, but tall, restaurant which occupies two floors of prime Manuka real estate is filled with funky decor and furniture. It also gives plenty of views out to the street below, allowing hungry diners to people-watch as they wait for their meals. The scents and aromas from the kitchen certainly assault the senses as soon as you step inside, whetting the appetite while you peruse Rockie Cheung's distinctive menu. Inspired by Japanese ideals, Chinese flavours and plenty of South-East Asian influences, the menu is as varied as it is consistently delicious. From roti paratha, to barbecued duck served with pancakes, shallots and cucumber, and the more traditional futomaki rolls, the entree selection will take you all around Asia. The mains follow suit with delights such as simple chicken teriyaki, and a delightfully hot and sweet Singapore hotpot filled with king prawns. Next time you're looking for inspiring Asian food, and can't decide on what to eat, go to Ginseng.
