King O'Malley was not only the Minister who defended the selection of Canberra as the site for the National Capital, but was also the man responsible for choosing Walter Burley Griffin's design as the winning entry; and to seeing that its basic elements were put into place. There is a certain irony in using O'Malley as the pub theme. He was responsible for having the ACT declared an alcohol-free district; and frequent references appear in his writings regarding the evils of drink, and the damage done to family life by the indulgent use of "stagger juice". Moreover, he was the type of character who was successful in business by selling insurance to his clients while plying them with alcohol at various hotels!
The pub has a selection of Australian and Irish food which are available either inside the premises or under the nearby trees for alfresco diners.
There are also special areas for private parties, who want something different for that special occasion.
