G u s ' C a f e
One of Civic's most recognisable landmarks, Gus' Café has been serving great food and coffee for over thirty years.
Established in 1969 and named after the legendary Gus' Petersilka (1913-1994), Gus' Café revolutionised Canberra's perception of restaurants by defying then-council regulations against outdoor dining. Championing every cause from anti-smoking to small-business rights, the eccentric and outspoken Gus was vilified by bureaucrats, only to be vindicated later when he was voted Canberran of the Year in 1978. Since those heady days of the '70s, Gus' Café has grown into a Canberra institution and remains the rendezvous point for coffee and casual dining in the city.
Owned and managed since 1994 by a vibrant young brother and sister team, Gus' Café has been consistently regarded as Civics' most innovative casual dining venue. Gus' Cafe has a tantalising mix of great food, friendly staff and a relaxed cosmopolitan atmosphere.
